TGC Competition Results for week ended May 10th
Warm at Green Valley Monday. The course is still very dry. The greens hard and fast. Welcome back to a couple of punters we haven’t seen for a year or two. John Emmerson played in an early group with another couple of locals and shot 36 points from 11. “Phil the horse” was also on the sheet and played with the boys in the van. He also shot 36 points on the handicap of 14. I have often wondered about his nickname? Is it his connection with the industry or his role as a sire?? two guys with 42 points, Stephen Downs US and a new player Don Kelly US who was sent this way by R2. Don also won the near pin and made the putt Richie McGhee 38 points off 2, I think handy would be an understatement
Tuesday a quiet drive to Greenwood. A little drama at the front desk. The price quoted two months ago is not what they wanted to charge, eventually they agreed. Played C & B. The course is normally in great condition, fairways good but one set of greens had just been sanded. Yes, we all know it’s a job that has to be done. Didn’t affect these guys. Zed Beloglavec AUS 35 points off 17. Off to Europe for 3 weeks then back to Thailand, have a great trip. Saito JPN 33 points from 21 mate of Jeff Calrow, Tommy Pearson won the near pin but missed the putt
Thursday, Parachat Links. Its been a number of years that the Golf Club has been playing here. Some of the querky holes have had work done on them. They are still working on a few more. I noticed new water hazards being built together with some reshaping of fairways. I make an error of judgement with the tee and played the white whereas I should have played the yellow tee. The greens are still a tough read. Curley Binworth AUS 37 points from 14 two guys with 30 points, Allan Pernault FRA and Carlos Aguille US again, Tom Pearson won the near pin and missed the putt
Friday, I agreed to have a game for the locals at Silky Oak. Not surprising but very dry like Green Valley. The greens are slow giving the punters every chance the straight putt will go in. Half the field shot their handicap or better. The locals got the chocolates. Kris K 41 points off 10 THAI/US Gary Emmett AUS 40 points off 14 37 points for Terry Danzas, Steve Downs, Fred Birch, Carlos Aguirre, Curly Brinkworth and Richie McGhee
