The T.Q. Masters 19 Oct. 2018
Phoenix Gold was the venue for our 23rd annual golf classic, the T.Q. Masters hosted by The Tahitian Queen. The coveted Green Jacket goes to the winner of the best individual Stableford score and this year was the closest it has ever been!
There were 70 contestants in 3 divisions playing off the Ocean and Mountain courses. It has been two years since this tournament has been held, out of respect to the passing of His Majesty the King, and the resumption this year was much anticipated. We even had 18 make the trip down from Bangkok, with a big thanks to Mark Guthrie and the crew!
For those who don’t know, T.Q. is Pattaya’s oldest go go bar that opened its doors in 1978 and has been at the same address on Beach Road all these years. It is a great place for Happy Hour sunsets and classic Rock ‘n Roll videos all day and all night.

The Long-Putt on the 9th at Ocean was 20 feet 8 inches and tagged by our Aussie mate Butch Furneaux and sponsored by Jack Levy.
We had a very organized send off on the morning and weather was brilliant. For all the rain and lightning around us we got lucky and only had a mere splash around 1:00 for just five minutes. The golf course was in excellent condition and the new putting greens with the white picket fencing looked all pro. There are many clubhouse improvements including new Gents lockers and moving the restaurant upstairs is another good idea!

There were loads of volunteers for today’s event with Bill, Bernie and Queeny passing out the on-course beers helped by Pom, Bee, Su and Nam giving out shirts at check in with Phil and Woody. They also did a great job churning out those legendary Bloody Caesars at the starting gate! Thank you very big to Alan Bolton Property for their support not just today, but over the years as well.

After the round, we all headed back to the Tahitian Queen for the BBQ buffet dinner provided by The Golf Club on Soi L.K. Metro. Pork mega-ribs, chicken satay, sliders, chili con carne and the best Buffalo chicken wings in town were happily washed down with happy hour beers from the bar. I understand the cole slaw and potato salad were also a bit hit with the gang.
TGC’s own Capt. Phil gave the best kind of presentation (short) aided by Mama-san Lek passing out the trophies. As mentioned earlier, this was a very closely contested tournament and amazingly, we had all three division winners turn in cards of 43 Stableford points. The Mountain track was the countback decider and Richard Anderson playing off a 9 handicap took the jacket! With all the formalities and prizes out of the way, bring on the famous 8 o’clock T.Q. Shift Change!

The Drinking Tournament with a golfing problem was a great success and our thanks go out to all who participated. You are all invited to the T.Q. Masters 24th edition next year… can we top 70 players? Let’s give it a try!
