TGC Golf Competition results for week ending May 3rd
Medal and Green Valley Monday. This is a week after the Songkran Water Festival. Songkran celebrates the start of the rainy season and the planting of rice. Green Valley is very dry and looking for some rainfall. The fairways are patchy due the grass dying through lack of water. The greens look like they have been watered but were hard and fast.
Generally speaking the course played tough and only one player beat his handicap. Medal winner Walter Baechli CH net 68 off 22 Gary Emmett AUS net 72 off 15 Captain net 74 off 16 Bob Mulholland won the near pin and sunk the putt
Tuesday, Treasure Hill lost 40 minutes with rain delay. The course was in great nick and green as opposed to Green Valley. Every time I drive into one of the trees in the middle of the fairway I think its bigger than the last time we played there. I suppose thirty years ago when the course was designed the trees were not as they are now or maybe not supposed to grow that big. Teddy Ogawa JPN 35 points off 16 Captain 31 off 16 no one hit the green for the near pin
Eastern Star was our destination for Thursday. The course is dry, the water reserves are very low. I saw only a couple of sprinklers working. Steven Downs US who has been here in Thailand for a few months treated one of our regular Green Valley caddies Rose number 29 for a game with our group. She shot 27 points and played in the last group with myself and Steve. A very tidy round. Steven Downs US 38 points off 8 and also won the Project Smile near pin, missed the putt Richie McGhee AUS 37 points off 2
Friday small numbers for Pattaya C.C. This course continues to improve and presents quite well. The weather was a little warm to start but then worked to a pleasant overcast. No one played to their handicap but the course had no bearing on the results. A good day out was had by all. Tommy Pearson UK 31 points off 13 and near pin winner (mate of Jeff Calrow) Steve Sweeney AUS 31 also off 19, hit some very nice shots
