TGC competition write up for week ending March 29
This is Thailand and the weather was wet on Monday. Morning showers, punters did not come to the club (opted to have breakfast with their secretary), some came and decided the weather too bad to travel, some went and came home without playing a stroke. As a result of the rain the field was diminished but those who played enjoyed fast greens, overcast conditions and only lengthened the game by 25 minutes greater than normal. A really great day to play. Sum num nar. the Captain lefty 40 points off 17 but I think less next week Mick Beresford lefty 39 points off 14 two with 38 points Mimi lefty off 7 and Yui Birch 38 points off 29 (looks like Fred will be washing the dishes)
A full van for Greenwood on Tuesday. Played C and B from the front tees. The course is in good condition with the greens steady which is probably in line with the handicaps of our players. Greenwood seldom disappoints and Tuesday was no exception. two boys from Melbourne both with 40 points, Nick Hague off 13 and Zed Beloglavec
off 17 Project Smile winner Bob Mulholland for the near pin

Thursday a little overcast and then a little warm. We played Pattana who have 3 nines. Today was the same as last week B (the first hole is the aircraft carrier) with water on both sides of the fairway and C for the second nine. Greens quick and hard, I struggled to see and repair pitch marks as the greens are hard and fast with enough slope not to take them for granted. Obviously, this combination is easier for some, or maybe “even a blind squirrel finds a nut some days”. Jeff Calrow UK 43 points off 14, fly’s home tomorrow “have a safe flight mate”. Greg Gawson AUS 42 from 21 said “just couldn’t do anything wrong” Stephen Downs US 39 off 8, goes home next week the representative from the “old folks Home” Alan Young for the Project Smile near pin, then 3 putted from 3 feet that’s golf
Monthly Medal Friday at Khao Kheow, A &B. Could it get any better? Played 6400 about, the yellow tees. A bit of talk during the week about tee preference, quality of field, you know all the same stuff. Another couple of reds and the decision was made for me. Greens fast and true, I only heard of one 4 putt today. Plenty in the drink but that’s golf. winner winner chicken dinner Mark Wood SCO net 68 off 10 two with net 74 Jim Dundon US and Mimi JPN off 6 really honest rounds, well done boys Project Smile near pin, the signature hole B8, Jeff Atherton and made the putt, cheers
